Course Overview
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to professional chemical relaxing for Afro-textured hair. Students will develop a strong understanding of hair structure, chemical systems, and safe application techniques required to perform relaxer services with confidence and precision.
The course emphasizes scalp safety, hair integrity, and professional decision-making, ensuring students are equipped to select the appropriate relaxer system based on individual client needs.
Students will explore the differences between Sodium Hydroxide (Lye), Guanidine (No-Lye), and Thio relaxers, including their chemical behavior, compatibility, and suitability for various hair types and scalp conditions.
In addition to technical knowledge, this course highlights the importance of proper consultation, pre-service analysis, and risk management, allowing students to identify when a chemical service is appropriate—or when alternative methods should be recommended.
By the end of this course, students will understand how to approach chemical relaxing as a professional service, not just a technique, with a focus on long-term hair health and client safety.
